Solaris Bowls
Solaris bowls are handmade in Ukraine from pure fire clay — red, white, or pink depending on the model. Every bowl is shaped on a potter’s wheel, processed through gradual roasting with vacuum treatment, and finished using a milk technique that gives the exterior its distinctive texture while improving moisture resistance.
These are not flashy bowls. They are honest ones — and that is precisely what makes them worth using.
Clay as a Material Philosophy
The hookah bowl is where everything that matters in a session converges: heat from above, airflow from below, and tobacco in between. The material the bowl is made from determines how well those forces interact.
Clay has been the bowl material of choice since the earliest days of hookah culture for clear reasons. Its low thermal conductivity buffers against sudden heat spikes, its wall thickness creates gradual, even heat distribution, and it adds no flavors of its own to the smoke.
Solaris uses fire clay specifically because it combines these properties with durability that many softer clays don’t achieve.
Three Formats for Three Preferences
Solaris produces bowls in three core configurations:
- Phunnel — A central spire that keeps molasses in the bowl. Best for wet, juice-heavy tobacco. Extends session length and preserves flavor intensity.
- Vortex — Additional holes around the central spire for increased airflow while retaining juice-resistance. A useful middle option for smokers who want more draw than a standard phunnel provides.
- Traditional — Classic multi-hole format. Shallow profile, suited to drier tobacco and foil-covered setups. Faster heat-up, more direct smoking character.
All three hold between 10 and 20 grams depending on model and size.
Handmade, Consistently Sized
Specific knives are used during shaping to standardise bowl dimensions, which means that despite being entirely handmade, Solaris bowls produce reliable grommet fits, level edges, and correct seating on heat management devices. Handmade production and consistent performance are not mutually exclusive here.
The Milk Technique
Solaris applies a milk treatment to the exterior of its red clay bowls during production. This creates an organic, slightly textured surface finish that looks distinctly different from glazed ceramic — more natural and individual — while improving the bowl’s resistance to moisture absorption during use.
Add Solaris to Your Setup
The full Solaris bowl range offers multiple clay types, formats, and capacities. If you want a bowl built from honest materials that performs reliably session after session, Solaris is one of the clearest choices on the market.
